The Living Altar would not have been possible without a 2018 interview series that the Kalliopeia Foundation commissioned to expand their understanding of spirit, ecology, and culture. This interview series seeded all subsequent outcomes-one of which was a 2019 in-person convening in Chicago.

We are grateful to the following individuals, who offered their perspective and time to make this project a reality: Alex Dorsey, Angela Oh, Ming Tu, Dara Cooper, Leah Penniman, Malik Yakini, Michael Martinez, Miguel Luna, Mila K. Marshall, Pandora Thomas, Sheryll Durrant, Torri Estrada, Mistinguette Smith, Matthew Wesley Williams, Lucia Oliva Hennelly, and Zakiya Harris.

In addition, Cheryl Johnson joined the writing circle that produced the Living Altar writings; although she did not submit a final piece, her presence added to the magic of the final product.
