EcoWomanism

by Veronica Kyle and Valerie Rawls

From the GED to the PhD, she comes with skills and will to make
the best of any situation and circumstance.

An EcoWomanist is a beautician and a physician.
The teacher and the preacher. She’s the helper and the healer.
The artist and the architect. The judge and the juror.
She’s the waitress and the warrior. The mama and definitely the manager.

Anything and everything that defines her Black, liberated,
“I’m only here to make a better self.” Her altars and prayer closets
are sacred spaces where she meets the spirits of her ancestors
and other deities of her choosing.

To keep from losing my damn mind completely, I’m imposing a lethal dose
of soul care and self care practices, wrapped in a huge bow of gratitude
for what really matters right about now. Morning smoothies, Qi gong, journaling, and big girl coloring books. Meditation and self-massages
on the regular. It’s COVID, you know. And one thing I know for sure:
the trees gon keep swinging; the sun gon keep shining;
the birds gonna keep singing; the moon gon keep glistening
and gleaming. And we gon be alright.

My garden gon smell good and sweet. My lovemaking has intensified.
Much gratitude to the ancestors who gifted us with the spirit
of showing up anyhow.
